Terms of Use

You're using an app that helps you track how many days you spend in a country so you can stay on the right side of tax-residency rules. We have written it carefully, but we are not your tax advisor, and the day counts shown are estimates — not legal advice and not an official record. By using Sojourn you accept the full terms below, and in particular section 7, which explains the limits of what this app can do for you.

By creating an account in Sojourn or otherwise using the app, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use Sojourn — uninstall it. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Sojourn Technologies L.L.C-FZ ("we", "us", "our"). In these Terms, "you" and "your" refer to you, the user of the Sojourn mobile application.

Sojourn is a mobile application that:

Sojourn does not provide tax preparation, legal advice, tax filing, accounting, or audit-representation services.

To use Sojourn you must:

You are responsible for all activity in Sojourn under your account. If you suspect your device or account has been compromised, change your device passcode and consider deleting and re-creating your account.

Some features of Sojourn are available only to subscribers ("Pro features"). Pro subscriptions are offered as:

The current price for each plan is shown inside the app at the moment of purchase. Prices may vary by country and may change over time; you will always see the current price before you confirm a purchase.

Who actually charges you. Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) on iOS, or Google (Google Play) on Android — not by us. Your payment instrument and any refund requests are handled by Apple or Google directly. We use a third-party service, RevenueCat, to read your subscription state and decide whether to unlock Pro features in the app.

Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can cancel at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings — not inside Sojourn, because we have no control over the billing relationship.

Refunds. All refund requests must be made directly to Apple or Google in line with their refund policies. We are not able to issue refunds for App Store or Google Play purchases.

Free trial (if offered). If we offer a free trial period for a subscription, the trial will be clearly marked at the point of purchase, with the date your card is first charged disclosed. You can cancel during the trial in your store account to avoid being charged.

EU/EEA consumers. If you are in the European Economic Area, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from a digital subscription within 14 days of purchase. By starting to use Pro features immediately, you may waive this right; the trade-off will be disclosed at the point of purchase as required by EU consumer law.

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach this section.

This section is the single most important part of these Terms. Please read it carefully.

Sojourn is a calculator and a record-keeping tool. It is not a tax advisor, a lawyer, or an accountant, and we are not acting as your tax advisor, lawyer, or accountant — not when we built the app, and not through the country-rule data inside it.

Specifically:

You agree that you will not rely on Sojourn as the sole basis for any decision about your tax residency, where you live, or where you spend time. We do not accept any liability for tax assessments, penalties, interest, or other financial consequences arising from your reliance on the app. If you need legal certainty about your tax residency, consult a qualified professional.

We make a reasonable effort to keep the country-rule data inside Sojourn up to date, and we display the date of last review for each country on the rule detail screen. Despite that:

If you spot a rule you believe is wrong, email us at support@sojourn.tax — we appreciate the help.

Our property. Sojourn, including its source code, design, country-rule data, copy, and visual identity, is owned by Sojourn Technologies L.L.C-FZ and protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Sojourn on devices you own or control, for non-commercial personal use, for as long as you comply with these Terms.

Your property. You retain ownership of everything you enter into Sojourn — your identity information, your stay events, your notes, and your exports. We do not claim any ownership of, or licence to, your data beyond what is necessary to run the app on your device.

You may terminate your relationship with us at any time by deleting your account inside the app (Settings → Account → "Delete my account and data"). Deletion is immediate and irreversible, and the consequences are described in our Privacy Policy and on the deletion confirmation screen.

We may suspend or terminate your access to Sojourn if you breach these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where reasonable, we will give you notice before doing so. The provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including sections 7, 9, 11, 12, and 14) will survive.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

If you are a consumer, the statutory rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law are not affected by this section.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sojourn Technologies L.L.C-FZ, its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your misuse of Sojourn, or (c) any tax-residency decision you or any third party makes based on data from Sojourn. This indemnity does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

Sojourn is distributed through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, and uses third-party services as described in our Privacy Policy. Your relationship with those third parties is governed by their own terms of service and privacy policies, not by us. We are not responsible for the actions, content, or policies of those third parties.

Apple-specific notice (iOS only): You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and us, not between you and Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for Sojourn or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Sojourn. In the event of any failure of Sojourn to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for Sojourn; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Sojourn. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

These Terms are governed by the laws of United Arab Emirates, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms will be brought before the competent courts of United Arab Emirates, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rules that may give you the right to sue in your country of residence.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, the European Commission's online dispute-resolution platform is available at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will:

If you do not accept the updated Terms, you may delete your account at that point. Continued use of Sojourn after the effective date of an updated Terms version constitutes acceptance of the update.

Force majeure. We are not liable for any failure or delay in providing Sojourn to the extent it is caused by events beyond our reasonable control — including acts of God, war, civil unrest, epidemic, failure of telecommunications or internet infrastructure, changes in law, or the acts or outages of the app stores or the third-party services Sojourn depends on.

Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets; we will not do so in a way that reduces your rights under these Terms.

No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms on any occasion, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. A waiver is effective only if it is made in writing.

Notices. We may give you notice inside the app or by email to the address on your account. You may give us notice at support@sojourn.tax. Notice is treated as received when sent, unless the sender is aware that it did not arrive.

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its original intent.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding Sojourn, and supersede any prior agreements or communications.
